A decisive billionaire
I grew up in a normal middle class family. Mom, dad and me. I received a good education. Never had to worry about food or security. I remember for at least 13 years or so, I would get up around 6:30 -7. Everyday, I would change into my school uniform and wait for my school bus about one block from my house. I was never really a big fan of school. I was always tired. Not really motivated to go. I did okay though. I enjoyed seeing my friends everyday. That’s about it.
Looking back, no one ever asked me if I wanted to go to school. I went because well… I guess all the other kids went to school. My parents would say it is important. And I guess I can come up with a dozen reasons why I should. But before going there, the real reasons were never discussed. I went along with the program at a very young age.
I came to the US when I was 16. Did I decide that? Not really... my mom wanted me to come because I could get better education in the U.S. And I did (I guess). At the age of 16, I finally got the freedom to live by myself without my parents being around all the time. I was a good kid. Even without them being around, I did not do anything too crazy. I graduated, found a good job, did good work, got promoted, then got promoted again. My life has been pretty smooth sailing. Nothing extraordinary. Nothing wrong. Now after all these years of education and good work, I can easily spend the rest of my life doing exactly just that. Continue to be a good worker, a good daughter and a good friend.
All these are so nice and comfortable. Do you see where I am going? We all live in a box of a pre-defined life routine. A box that was created by someone else at one point. We don’t question the box because we did not know it is a box. Did you ever ask yourself – Who do you want to be? What do you do for yourself and your family? How do you want to live? Did you do what you are doing now because you decided to do it or because this opportunity just came along and you were too lazy to think about other options?
To live outside of the box, I need to decide what I am going to become. I've decided to become a millionaire and take the responsibility to become one. It doesn’t sound like that hard of a decision. But it was very tough. It is certainly outside of my familiar box.
No one around me has done it before. I need to create my own path. A fun and exciting path. Not living up to someone else’s expectations, but living a life for me and me only. Take full responsibilities because I have committed to it. Love life because I finally am taking control. Not because someone said so, or because it is a cool thing to do.
Spend time, think. Don’t just go with the flow or the program. Don’t ask the ‘What if’ question till the end. Ask the ‘What if’ today and NOW!
